What is Caregiver Youniversity?
Caregiver Youniversity offers the courses needed for learning the “how to’s”; the steps of planning and implementing what it takes for a families to manage the long-term care of a loved one during each stage of decline. The output of each module is then used to create a comprehensive plan. It is important to understand the big picture during each stage, so that every decision fits within the overall plan. Only then will you be able to optimize your efforts to achieve the best outcomes possible.

Good outcomes involve more than just patient care. Good outcomes also include good outcomes for the caregiver as well as the whole family. This means taking what is a sad but inevitable reality, and coordinating their care as a team. We cannot stop death, but we can change how we think about it, and how we manage not only the aging process, but the family process around it. With the right tools, you can transform a devastating nightmare into a family legacy
My goal is to change the status quo of waiting until crisis to act, into a proactive mindset for planning in advance for something no one wants to even think about, until they must. You can’t just hope for the best and knowing where the nursing home is, is not a plan.
The benefits are immeasurable, but they can never be fully appreciated until one actually goes through the process. You don’t know what you don’t know, and emotion always gets in the way of clear thinking, especially under stress.
So, although denial may be the #1reason why people do not plan, denial manifests in many ways.

Harvard study shows...
But most of us don’t want to think about it until it’s on our doorstep. A Harvard study shows that the #1 reason why people do not plan, is denial. Although you can plan forward from wherever you are in the process, a crisis is not the best doorway to begin your caregiving experience. However, the reality is that most of us are busy, shuffling more immediate priorities until one day… becomes today.
In talking to several families whose parents are aging, I discovered a few other reasons why so many do not plan-in-advance. Some become overwhelmed at the thought of planning, not knowing where to start, and therefore never do. Others may think that they are smart enough to know what to do and can just play it by ear when it happens. Still others assume that if they have sufficient money, they don’t have to figure it out in advance because they can afford to get help. And then there are those who do not have enough money and may feel that there is no use in planning, because they cannot afford any of the solutions they would learn about.
